Garfield, NJ. — Two growing names in the Northeast flag football scene are joining forces this summer as Elevate Flag Football Camp, a four-day instructional experience designed to help young athletes sharpen their skills while learning directly from college-level coaches and players.
The camp, scheduled for June 29 through July 2 at Garfield High School, is led by Don Sellari, Associate Head Women’s Flag Football coach at Montclair State University, alongside Michael Perrota, head women’s flag football coach at Mercy University. It is open to players from any area.
The partnership represents a unique collaboration between two programs helping shape the rapid growth of girls’ flag football in New Jersey and beyond. While the camp will feature instruction from coaches and college athletes from both universities, much of the spotlight centers around Sellari and the remarkable early success of Montclair State’s women’s flag football program.
In just its debut season, Montclair State quickly emerged as one of the nation’s top programs, ranked as high as No. 19 in the national ranking in the Women’s College Flag Football Top 25 Poll by WomensCollegeFlagFootball.com. The Red Hawks finished the regular season with an impressive 12-1 overall record, including a perfect 8-0 mark at home, establishing themselves as one of the fastest-rising programs in collegiate flag football.
Sellari, a former Rutgers University linebacker, said the camp is designed to provide more than just drills and competition.
“This is about creating opportunities and helping young athletes understand where the game can take them,” Sellari said. “Girls flag football is growing at an incredible rate, and we want players to experience high-level coaching, learn the fundamentals the right way, and see firsthand what college flag football looks like.”
The camp will feature two divisions
: youth athletes entering grades 5 through 8 and high school athletes entering grades 9 through 12. Participants will receive instruction in quarterback play, route running, defensive coverage, footwork, game strategy, and position-specific development, while also gaining recruiting insight from current college coaches.
Sellari is the owner of Beyond Potential for the past 20 years, specializing in the Alpha Athlete system to maximize explosiveness. Perrota runs the NJTouchdownClub, focusing on camps and position-based training.
Together, the two coaches provide athletes with a complete developmental experience from elite movement and speed training under Sellari to the strategic, system-based football instruction and game concepts emphasized by Perrota.
Together, they develop the athlete and the football IQ.
Perrota said the partnership between the longtime friends reflects a shared mission to grow the sport throughout New Jersey.
“Coach Sellari has helped elevate the visibility of women’s flag football tremendously,” Perrota said. “We want players leaving this camp more confident, more skilled, and more inspired about their future in the game.”
The Elevate Flag Football Camp will run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Garfield High School Football Field, located at 500 Palisades Avenue in Garfield, N.J.
About Women’s Flag:
Flag football is experiencing historic growth across both the Northeast and the nation, transforming from a recreational activity into one of the fastest-rising sports for young women. In New Jersey alone, participation has exploded from just a handful of programs a few years ago to more than 140 high schools fielding girls’ flag football teams statewide, with approximately 4,200 athletes now competing across the Garden State. Earlier this month, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) officially voted to sanction girls’ flag football as a varsity high school sport beginning in the 2026-27 school year, making New Jersey the 18th state in the country to officially recognize the sport. The measure passed overwhelmingly by a 311-18 vote, signaling a major shift in the landscape of scholastic athletics.
The momentum is equally strong at the collegiate level. Women’s flag football is now recognized as one of the fastest-growing emerging college sports in America, with more than 200 club and varsity collegiate teams expected to compete nationwide during the 2026 season. The NCAA recently added women’s flag football to its Emerging Sports for Women program, while the NAIA has continued expanding scholarship opportunities and varsity competition. The sport will also make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, further accelerating national investment and visibility.
